Decor is not something we get to work a lot with from start to finish. So it's real treat when we get the opportunity to bring one of our own ideas to life. A local law firm contacted us a few years ago when we were just starting out to provide decor for their parade viewing party in SF. Unfortunately, we don't have any photos from that first party to show just how far MSH Events has come, but we are so proud of what we pulled together this year!
The Design Process
Budget -> Research -> Proposal -> Shopping -> Mock Up -> Revised Vision -> Go Time!
We won't go into detail about our process, but we did want to talk about the places where we sourced the products we used for this design. Especially for DIY couples, Etsy is amazing but you're paying a premium for having someone else hand make your items. These are some great affordable resources for finding the pieces for your DIY details.
Save on Crafts
MSH Events sources most of its raw materials from here. There are local shops in SF in and around the Flower Mart that have comparable breadth of products but requires you to personally go in and hunt and shop for what you need. SOC has everything listed online and even tells you how many they have left. The selection is huge and they really do have everything. They also have a great 48-hour free return policy for any damaged goods.
We would consider this a slightly nicer version of the Oriental Trading Company. It's much smaller and focuses on paper decor: lanterns, pom poms, and parasols mostly. But you can't beat the pricing and they have more colors than even SOC.
There's a certain point in every DIY project where the amount of time required outweighs the satisfaction of the finished piece. This is where Etsy truly shines. We minimized purchasing from Etsy to save on the budget, but boy were we glad not to have to clean up glitter for that banner!
